Second Opinions

To say I've been busy is an understatement. As you know we spent a week in Newport Beach and did a ton of shopping. The first day we were there was Nordstrom's Annual Anniversary sale and boy did we have fun. I did buy two maxi dresses from Michael Stars, one Marc by Marc Jacobs Messenger bag, three tops and one sweater. I also got my sandals, not the Tory Burch (not paying full price) but did get the Guess Jadakis, 40% off thank you very much! The real fun began when we got home....not.

I'm not one to put personal stuff out there but this I feel is something that everyone can maybe learn from. I had been "diagnosed" with GERD ( Gastroesophageal reflux disease) at least five years ago. It's like a really bad heartburn that sits below your breast bone and stays for a few hours and your stomach gets really bloated. It has to do with diet and stress and I thought mine was diet (different food triggers) so I cut those out of my diet. It still came and went but the last six months or so it has gotten worse, coming to a head last Saturday night. After a wonderful dinner at Joe's Crab Shack I was completely leveled. Not the normal kind of pain, this lasted for the next five days on and off. When we got back from Newport I had one good day with very minimal pain with it returning the next morning in full force. So,I took my ass to the ER. Come to find out, I had a glallstone. A blocked infected gallstone thank you very much. Thursday morning at 8:00 am, I had my Gallbladder removed. Yep, after five plus years thinking I had really bad acid reflux, it had been my gallbladder the whole time. There is a couple of things that suck. First, my doctor referred me to a specialist and I didn't want to go because my insurance wouldn't cover it. Stupid. Second, I should have gotten another opinion because I went back to my doctor a couple of times after the referral and he never caught it, never even looked. It took another doctor a total of four minutes to diagnose me.

The good news is all my other major organs are in great health and now, so am I. Learn from my mistakes. If you feel something is wrong and your doctor doesn't listen, get a second opinion. If your doctor sends you to a specialist....go. I'm lucky, mine didn't burst which could have been lethal. There is nothing more important in this world than your health.

Now on that note, I am off to find those damn Tory Burch sandals at half price!
